A junction between two different worlds of nature and technology, where unexpected solutions are found and innovative bioproducts are created – this is what hides behind the BSc in Industrial Biotechnology at KTU.
Biotechnology is one of the most rapidly growing field in both industry and research. That is why graduates of this program will continue to be busy for a very long time.
For those who have chosen this study program, creative and analytical years await: you will be solving biotechnological problems, designing technological equipment, creating and developing new products. While designing high quality biotechnological products, you will be combining skills and knowledge of bioprocesses, engineering, and living cells.
Values
A junction between engineering and biology sciences:
- The student acquires knowledge of the small-scale biotechnological processes and the realisation of these processes at the industrial level. After the completion of the bachelor studies, the student will have knowledge of innovative technologies applied in the industries of biochemicals, biofuel, biosolvents, and biopolymers.
The studies provide the main knowledge that is necessary for the work of a biotechnologist:
- The programme is oriented to the analysis and application of engineering technologies and biotechnology methods used in the industry;
- The studies will provide knowledge in the field of engineering and biotechnology (cell biology, microbiology, biochemistry, genetic technology, polymers, enzymology) and understanding of the application of technologies in bioindustry.
Application of theoretical knowledge in the practice:
- The studies allow the graduates to acquire such skills as cultivation of cells of various organisms, performance of practical chemical, microbiological and biotechnology (biotechnological) experiments, use of biotechnology (biotechnological) equipment, solution (solve) of practical biotechnology problems, design of production technologies, application of modern technologies in the fields of biotechnology industry.
Extensive career opportunities:
- After their studies, the graduates can work in various biotechnology, biochemistry educational establishments, agricultural, pharmaceutical, bioenergy, and food industry companies;
The studies provide an opportunity to study abroad:
- Student exchange programmes provide opportunities for studies and apprenticeships in foreign countries.
