What’s the difference between the MS in Innovation & Entrepreneurship & an MBA?
The MSIE is focused on Innovation & Entrepreneurship. Students may aspire to lead innovation from within an organization or to become an entrepreneur. MSIE students develop the skills necessary to ideate and launch new products, services, programs or businesses, honing their abilities to think creatively and solve problems. They learn to navigate the challenges of funding, pitching, marketing, networking and management as it pertains to innovation within an organization or start-up venture and, most importantly, students learn how to use failure as a learning tool to continuously improve and move forward. They are prepared to launch, lead and succeed with their new idea or business.
The MBA is focused on developing in-depth knowledge, skills and abilities in each of the functional areas of business to gain a competitive edge in the marketplace or career advancement. MBA students develop and enhance skills in critical thinking, strategic planning, management, marketing, finance, economics and accounting as it pertains to a corporate environment. They learn to use data to inform decision-making and solve problems, while effectively collaborating, managing and leading across matrixed organizations to achieve goals. They are prepared to lead people, projects and programs at the highest levels.

JCU’s Master of Science in Innovation & Entrepreneurship begins with foundational courses to introduce a new way of learning and approaching problems.
MB 501 Inspired Business Forum is required and offered each year in the fall. The Forum explores the notion of inspired business, the triple bottom line and the four mindsets of inspired leaders.
