We offer a truly multicultural environment with 2,400 international students from over 100 countries. Approximately 50% of the students and faculty at our business school are international. Our business school, Jönkö ping International Business School, is ranked among the top 100 business schools in Europe by The Financial Times (FT) and our master's in management are ranked top 100 globally by FT 2021,2022 and 2023, 2024). We also belong to a select group of top business schools holding prestigious triple crown accreditation from both EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA.

The School of Engineering is one of Sweden's largest educators of engineers and world-leading when it comes to research within materials and manufacturing technology. The school is accredited by ACEEU International Accreditation (Accreditation Council for Entrepreneurial and Engaged Universities) and is a member of the Conceive Design Implement Operate CDIO Initiative. The School of Education and Communication is part of the global ranking of academic subjects in communication by the Shanghai Ranking The School of Health and Welfare is accredited by the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO).

There's an entrepreneurial spirit throughout the education at JU and students get the opportunity to practice what they're learning within most programs through company projects, case competitions, internships, group work, and much more. What does Jönköping have to offer?

Jönkö ping is a beautifully situated city, surrounded by lakes with stunning waterfront views and a long beach in the city center. It's a city with a lot to offer- stylish bars and restaurants, cozy cafes and shopping streets theatres and music venues, and even a large mall with shopping, restaurants, and more. There are lakes where you can row, kayak, and do other water sports and many beautiful parks and nature close by where you can enjoy some leisure time.

JIBS stands out not only for its academic achievements but also for its international profile. The school is globally connected with strong ties to the international business world. Almost half of the staff and 80% of the master’s students have a foreign background, contributing to preparing graduates for success in the international job market.

JIBS scores high on international mobility and the proportion of international faculty has earned JIBS the top spot in Scandinavia.

Admission requirements for undergraduate studies

All students must fulfill the general and specific admission requirements for the program they are applying to. For undergraduate/bachelor studies, the selection is made based on high school/upper secondary school results.

Eligibility requirements include

  • A high school diploma which entitles the student to university studies in his/her home country.
  • Transcripts of completed courses and grades NOTE: Students in their final year of high school/upper secondary school, can only apply through our local JU admission and only if the following criteria are met: official semester grades for all high school years including the second-to-last semester of the final year can be submitted and the final official diploma/certificate can be presented by the introduction week in August.
  • Predicted grades are not accepted, with the exception of IB Diploma students who are allowed to submit predicted grades if semester grades are not available.
  • For bachelor programs at the business school, you must have
    • completed social science, history, or geography courses in high school/upper secondary school (equivalent to Samhällskunskap A at Swedish gymnasium).
    • Completed math studies in high school/upper secondary school (equivalent to Matematik 3b, 3c, or Matematik C at the Swedish gymnasium) which gives you the knowledge to use functions such as logarithms, exponentials, polynomials, and power functions. Furthermore, you should be familiar with the concept of derivatives and the slope of a curve and be able to formulate, analyze, and solve simple mathematical models.
  • For our Engineering bachelor program in Sustainable Supply Chain Management, and for our bachelor program in Prosthetics and Orthotics, maths and science requirements are higher than in other programs. Contact us for more specific information related to your country.
  • A copy of your passport (EU/EEA/Swiss citizens may submit a copy of a valid identity card that clearly states citizenship).
  • Letter of Motivation - The motivation letter should be no longer than 1000 words. Work experience that relates to the program is considered an asset.

All students must fulfill the general and specific admission requirements for the program they are applying to.

Required documents

  • Bachelor's Diploma from a recognized university: Note: If you have not yet received the diploma, but are in your final year, you may submit documentation from your university, certifying that you are an active student in your last semester. The document must be issued through and certified by a representative of the Academic Registrar's Office, the Examinations Office, or equivalent.
  • Transcripts of completed courses and grades *
  • Copy of your Passport (EU/EEA/Swiss citizens may submit a certified copy of a valid identity card that clearly states citizenship in place of a passport copy).
  • In addition, each program has specific prerequisites. Please check the specific requirements for each program (listed in the "Facts" section on each program page) before filling in your application form.
  • Letter of Motivation- The motivation letter should be no longer than 1000 words. Work experience that relates to the program is considered an asset.
  • We do not require a GMAT, GRE or CFA, but a good score may strengthen your application to some Master&rsquo's programs at Jönkö ping International Business School. You are welcome to send a certified copy of your test result with your application.

Language Requirements

All applicants to programs (and summer courses) are required to meet the standard English language requirements corresponding to English 6 in the Swedish upper secondary school system.

Everyone can meet the requirement by achieving the required score on an internationally recognized English test. Completed upper secondary and university studies in some countries can also fulfill the requirement.

All students should have a valid passport for the period of their study in Jönköping.

If you need an entry visa depends on where you come from. The lists of countries whose residents require a visa can be found at the Government Offices of Sweden. You should also confirm possible visa requirements with the Swedish consulate or embassy responsible for your home country.

Students admitted to JU bachelor or master programs have the opportunity to obtain a scholarship and/or financial support. Below you can find useful information about the different options according to the country you come from and program level.

JU Scholarship (all non-EU/EEA countries)

Scholarships from Jönköping University

Jönkö ping University offers scholarships on behalf of the Swedish government. The scholarships, intended for students who pay tuition fees, will cover a percentage of the fee for the duration of the program. The scholarship application is open from when the program application opens in October until 15 April.

Swedish Institute Scholarships

The Swedish Institute (SI) is a public agency that promotes interest and trust in Sweden around the world. SI works in the fields of culture, education, science, and business to strengthen international relations and development.

Students with a nationality from the following countries may apply: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, Cambodia, Cameroon, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Moldova, Morocco, Myanmar (Burma), Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Ukraine, Vietnam, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

  • Between 9 to 28 February 2024 apply to the Swedish Institute scholarship through the SI application link external link, which opens in a new window.
  • If admitted to the JU Master program and granted the SI Scholarship, the Swedish Institute will inform you about the granted applicants on 25 April 2024.

Important: Make sure to include all the requested documents in your applications and respect the deadlines. Incomplete applications and late applications will not be considered.

AACSB accreditation means the school undergoes a comprehensive institutional review every five years. In 2025, Jönköping International Business School was accredited by AMBA for its Master’s programme in Engineering Management.

AMBA (Association of MBAs) is one of the world’s most respected organisations for quality assurance of advanced management education. Accreditation is awarded only to MBA, DBA, and Master’s programmes that meet the highest international standards – with a strong focus on teaching quality, learning outcomes, career support, employability, and engagement with students, alumni, and industry.

Today, fewer than 300 business schools worldwide are AMBA-accredited, making this recognition both exclusive and significant.

Jönköping International Business School has been EQUIS-accredited since 2015.

EQUIS accreditation involves a comprehensive institutional review process every three to five years. The accreditation takes a 360-degree perspective on the school’s education, research, and organisation.

Since 2023, Jönköping University has been included in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, which list the world’s top universities. Out of approximately 20,000 institutions worldwide, 1,800 are ranked, with Jönköping University placed in the 601-800 range, positioning it among the top 5% of global universities.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE rankings) were established in 2004 and are considered one of the three most important and prestigious international rankings. Universities are evaluated across five criteria: teaching, research, citations, international outlook, and industry income. The first three criteria hold the most weight, each accounting for 30%.

Jönköping University’s strongest area is international outlook, where it ranks in the top 400 globally.

Times Higher Education Young Universities Ranking

The Times Higher Education Young Universities Ranking evaluates the world’s top institutions under 50 years old. Jönköping University is ranked in the 201-250 range and is the fourth-highest ranked institution in Sweden.

Jönköping International Business School has ranked among the top 95 in the FT European Business School rankings in both 2021 and 2022, and in the top 100 in the FT Master’s in Management rankings in 2021, 2022, and 2023. In 2023, JIBS climbed 20 places from the previous year, now ranking at 64th place. 

US News Best Global Universities Ranking

Each year, the American magazine US News ranks the world’s top 2,000 universities. Jönköping University is ranked 1,208th and is the only university college in Sweden to be included, outperforming several Swedish universities. US News is the largest university ranking in the US.

 

Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS)

The GRAS rankings, conducted by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, which also produces the prestigious Shanghai Ranking, assess institutions globally by subject. Jönköping University ranks among the top 300 in the world in Nursing and Business Administration.

What is Jönköping University best known for?

Jönköping University is one of the most international universities in Sweden in terms of the number of international students and faculty as well as student-exchange opportunities. Research is also largely internationally focused, which translates into internationally relevant programs and courses.

We’re home to Jönköping International Business School (the first school in Sweden to gain both EQUIS and AACSB accreditation) and have a strong focus on entrepreneurship throughout the university.

Outside of the classroom, we’re known for our exciting Introduction Week, which has been rated one of the best in Europe, as well as our very active and international student union that offers students loads of extracurricular activities, events, trips, etc.
