Key Summary
About: Master in Myofunctional Therapy teaches assessment of orofacial functions, breathing, swallowing, chewing, and speech, and to design individualized interventions that restore bone and muscle balance, form neuromotor patterns, reduce parafunctions, and address harmful habits. It covers atypical swallowing, mouth breathing, dysphagia, neurological and neuromuscular disorders, pre and post reconstructive surgery, and TBI. The program runs 12 months, on Saturday and Sunday, in Madrid, directed by Milagros Velasco.
Career Outcomes: After the Master you'll work in Early Intervention Centers, Orthodontic and Dental Clinics, Hospitals, Rehabilitation Centers, Schools and Educational Institutions, Private practice, Universities and Research Centers, Consulting Firms. Roles include clinical speech therapist, myofunctional therapist, rehabilitation team member, educator, clinical researcher, and specialist consultant in clinical practice.
Headquarters: Madrid
Hours: Saturday and Sunday
Duration: 12 months
Qualification: Master in Myofunctional Therapy issued by ISEP
About
The Master in myofunctional therapy provides students with the necessary knowledge to analyze the different normal and pathological orofacial behaviors of the structures that intervene in basic functions (breathing, swallowing, chewing, speaking) and design an individualized intervention plan for each pathology.
Its purpose is to achieve a balance between bone and muscular structures at the orofacial level in order to create new neuromotor patterns of appropriate behavior, as well as reduce parafunctions, eliminate harmful habits and improve the patient's aesthetics.
Its application can be both active, with the patient's own voluntary participation, and passive, with the application of different techniques and maneuvers by the therapist.
There are many applications in both children and adults: atypical swallowing, mouth breathing, neurological or neuromuscular pathologies, dysphagia, before and/or after reconstructive plastic surgery, TBI, etc.
Director of the Master in Myofunctional Therapy
Milagros Velasco. Teacher and speech therapist. Expert in voice rehabilitation, Myofunctional Therapy and SAACs (alternative and / or augmentative communication systems) and in Evaluation and Intervention in Specific Language Disorder. Speech therapist at the Cuenca Multiple Sclerosis Association (ADEMCU). Speech therapist and Director of the LEA-Logopedia center.

With this qualification you will learn to:
- Analyze the concept of myofunctional therapy from an interdisciplinary perspective
- Identify the different fields of application of this therapy
- Provide theoretical and practical knowledge about the procedures for evaluation and intervention of myofunctions that allow students to carry out correct professional practice.
- Evaluate the different normal and pathological orofacial behaviors of the structures involved in basic functions
- Monitor and evaluate the objectives of an intervention plan
- Assess all aspects involved in swallowing that allow us to diagnose possible disorders and apply an effective myofunctional intervention.
- Working with patients of all ages, from children to adults.
- Design an individualized myofunctional intervention plan.
