Bachelor of Arts in Economics

The BA program in Economics was established in 2011 and offers studies in English as well as in Georgian. It introduces students to macro- and microeconomic theory, monetary and fiscal policies, models of international economics. In addition, students will obtain a knowledge in evaluation of world economy as well as become familiar with the key thinkers related to the field. Furthermore, the program also covers issues related to Georgian economy, its current trends and challenges. Overall the main goal of the program is to deliver a high-quality education that will enable the graduates to meet international standards and provide the labor market with a highly qualified workforce. The undergraduate program provides an excellent background for those who plan careers in government and private enterprise as well as those pursuing graduate degrees in professional schools or in the field of economics.

Prerequisites to Enrollment

Students are allowed to enroll the program according to the regulation established by Georgian legislation. A person with the complete secondary education is allowed to study the educational bachelor program. Passing of the Unified Entry Examinations is a precondition of acceptance at the program. Citizens of foreign countries have a right to study at the program in relevance with the regulation established by the Georgian legislation, without taking Unified Entry Examinations Georgia.

Purpose of the Program

The BA program in Economics aims to introduce students to the economic aspects of modern society, to familiarize them with techniques for the analysis of contemporary economic problems, and to develop in them an ability to exercise judgment in evaluating current economic trends. The program benefits from international experience and provides students with a solid foundation in contemporary economic theories, models and applications. In addition, the program design integrates theory with practice and aims to increase the competitiveness of our graduates in Georgia as well as abroad. The program introduces students to macro- and microeconomic theory, monetary and fiscal policies, models of international economics, teaches them to think and write clearly about economic problems and policy issues and apply the basic tools of economic analysis, such as statistics and econometrics. In addition, students will obtain a knowledge in the evaluation of world economy as well as become familiar with the key thinkers related to the field. Furthermore, the program also covers issues related to Georgian economy, its current trends and challenges. Overall the main goal of the program is to deliver a high-quality education that will enable the graduates to meet international standards and provide the labor market with a highly qualified workforce equipped with modern theoretical and practical knowledge along with global human values and dedicated to lifelong learning.

Field of Employment

The undergraduate program provides an excellent background for those who plan careers in government and private enterprise as well as those pursuing graduate degrees in professional schools or in the field of economics. Particularly, the graduates of the BA Program in Economics will have an opportunity to be employed in governmental bodies, such as Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Ministry of Finance, as well as Departments of International Economic Relations at other related entities. In addition, the alumni can target international and regional organizations, International and local NGOs with the main focus on economics, think tanks researching major economic trends, educational institutions, banks and private companies.
