Programme Characteristics
Applicants to the BRE Scheme may choose from the following three programmes:
BSc (Hons) in Building Engineering and Management
This programme provides students with a rich education in building engineering and construction management. Our graduates are in great demand in the professional building and construction management sectors because they are well prepared to adapt to the changing needs of the construction industry and possess the expertise necessary to plan, coordinate, supervise, and control the multiple complex processes involved in building projects.
BSc (Hons) in Property Management
This programme equips graduates to provide strategic business solutions for corporations and institutions that capitalise on real estate as a business asset, deploying real estate to enhance business value and competitiveness, optimise corporate resources, improve users’ experiences, and prepare for the trends of tomorrow. This is a professional education programme with a global and practical vision. Offering a wide range of subjects related to building and real estate, the programme provides an interdisciplinary education in property and housing management and facilities and real estate asset management.
BSc (Hons) in Surveying
This programme nurtures future professionals in the fields of building surveying, general practice surveying (real estate), planning and development, property and facility management, and quantity surveying (construction economics). Graduates possess the knowledge and skills necessary to lead strategy making in the land, property, and construction sectors.
Characteristics of Scheme Based Admission
Students admitted to the BSc (Hons) Scheme in Building and Real Estate will complete a common first-year curriculum. The decision to admit a student to a specific award will be made by the Department based on the student’s preference, GPA result, and/or interview performance. Students are required to indicate their priority on the preferred programmes/majors in the second semester of year 1 study for consideration and approval.

Aims & Learning Outcomes
The aim of the BRE Scheme is to provide an academic platform to develop students’ knowledge, skills, and abilities in the fields of building and real estate through the experience of real-world methods and practices. Graduates possess intellectual, vocational, and practical skills relevant to building and real estate and demonstrate independent thinking, curiosity, confidence, and professionalism.
Curriculum
- Year 1 is the common first year of the Scheme. Students are introduced to basic knowledge of and the latest issues relating to the construction and real estate industry.
- Year 2: the curriculum covers the disciplines of economics and finance, law, technology, building engineering, real estate, property management, and housing and facilities management.
- Years 3 and 4: the curriculum focuses on problem identification, problem-solving, and decision making in the key areas addressed by the programme.
Career Opportunities
Many graduates of the BSc (Hons) in Building Engineering and Management go on to train as building engineers or construction managers. They are well prepared to take up positions in construction companies or real estate development companies.
Many graduates of the BSc (Hons) in Property Management go on to train as property managers/officials of housing estates or take up posts in the retail and commercial building sectors in Hong Kong, mainland China, and beyond. Others receive training in Hong Kong government departments, such as the Rating and Valuation Department, Lands Department, and Housing Department.
Graduates of the BSc (Hons) in Surveying may wish to train under professional surveyors in various international surveying consultancies, property development companies, construction companies, or local government departments, such as the Rating and Valuation Department, Lands Department, Housing Department, and Architectural Services Department and Buildings Department.

- The BSc (Hons) in Building Engineering and Management is accredited by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), the Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers (HKICM) and the Chartered Institute of Building in the UK (CIOB)
- The BSc (Hons) in Property Management is accredited by the Hong Kong Institute of Housing (HKIH), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in the UK (RICS) and the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS)
