This two-year full-time (three to four years part-time) in-depth study is for students considering further research in the subject. The deeper grounding in philosophy than the MA Philosophy will allow you time to think out a PhD topic should you wish to progress to a research degree.

The MPhilStud provides in-depth knowledge of three areas of philosophy as well the opportunity to engage seriously in philosophical research by writing papers, by presenting one’s own work in research seminars and by writing a thesis.

Upon completion of MPhilStud, you can apply directly for the PhD which is ordinarily completed in a quicker timeframe than those without an MPhilStud.
