Hanken – an international business school with strong connections to business and society

Welcome! Here you'll find information about Hanken.

Hanken School of Economics, one of the oldest business schools in the Nordic countries, was established more than one hundred years ago. Today, Hanken is the only stand-alone business school in Finland. Our strategy includes profiling the School as a genuinely international and research-oriented business school with close ties to the corporate world. We offer academic programs on all levels (BSc, MSc, and Ph.D.) at two locations, in Helsinki and Vaasa.

Research at Hanken is carried out within all departments, with a special focus on four selected areas of strength. Many of our researchers are at the absolute forefront of their field. Our cooperation with the corporate world is reflected in joint research projects, in active interaction through our partner programme as well as the generous support we receive in our fundraising.

Hanken is the first university in Finland to introduce a mandatory semester abroad as an integrated part of the curriculum. The students are thus offered a unique opportunity to create their international networks for life through an exchange or internship period abroad. These lifelong networks are created both internationally and at Hanken. They permeate the studies and play an important role in the excellent placement of our alumni in the international job market. Through our alumni network and activities, we also make sure that the network built while at Hanken and the ties to the School are maintained and broadened after graduation.

Accommodation

Exchange students either stay in a flat provided by the Foundation for Student Housing in the Helsinki/Vaasa Region (HOAS/VOAS) or find a place on the private market.

Hanken’s quota of HOAS rooms in Helsinki does not meet the demand in the autumn semester. In the autumn semester, about 60% of the exchange students coming to Helsinki get accommodation through HOAS. Hanken gives students from outside Europe priority to the HOAS apartments so if you are a student coming from Europe for the autumn semester, be prepared to find accommodation on the private market. However, we urge all students to apply for HOAS, without an application you cannot get an offer from them.

  • HOAS in Helsinki
  • Helsinki Private Market
  • VOAS in Vaasa
  • Vaasa private market
