Introduction

GCU Pathways

Pathway students enrol on the undergraduate BA (Hons) Accountancy at Glasgow Caledonian University. In the first two years, you will study HND Accounting at Glasgow Clyde College while preparing for year 3 and 4 (for Honours) of the degree at GCU.

BA (Hons) Accountancy graduates enjoy excellent career prospects as professional accountants, preparing financial statements and record business transactions, tracking financial performance, and participating in mergers, acquisitions and quality management.

Assessment Methods

For the first two years of study, you will attend Glasgow Clyde College and follow the teaching and assessment guidelines for the HND Accounting.

In Years 3 and 4 you will undertake study at GCU. As a professionally accredited programme, our approach to learning, teaching and assessment is tailored to the needs of the profession and the requirements of the professional bodies.

We use a wide range of learning and teaching methods to ensure not only that our students will gain the necessary knowledge and understanding of accountancy but also to develop their intellectual and personal skills.

Teaching Methods

In Years 3 and 4 you will undertake study at GCU.

We use a variety of learning and teaching methods to ensure that our programme is both vocationally relevant and academically challenging. Our teaching is supported by a strong record in relevant research, consultancy and scholarly activity.

All of our modules use GCULearn, the university's virtual learning environment, which provides course materials, reading resources, assessments and feedback are all available online. It is also used to enable students to undertake online activities and tasks, listen to podcasts, be involved in online discussion groups, and take part in blogs and Twitter-based learning activities. This approach is blended with more traditional lecture, tutorial and seminar contact. We regularly invite in guest lecturers from industry to show our students the practical relevance of the academic material they are covering.

Our curriculum is designed to promote employability, with our syllabus developed in line with the requirements of professional bodies in order to gain accreditation and subject exemptions.

The programme is also designed to allow graduates access to a wide range of careers within the business and public sectors and within academia.
