Key Summary
About: The Bachelor of Arts in Integrative Studies programme with a Women and Gender Studies concentration examines gender, sexuality, race, class, disability, religion, and region through teaching, research, and activism. Students study feminist theory, gender and history, media, the relationship between sex and gender, intersectionality, and global perspectives. Coursework is interdisciplinary, linking cultural studies, sociology, economy, and analysis.
Career Outcomes: Graduates enter advocacy and nonprofit work, public policy and analysis, education and teaching, media and communications, research and education, or diversity, equity, and inclusion roles in organizations. Many pursue graduate study in gender studies, law, public policy, or social work.
Women and Gender Studies were founded model of the “three-pronged” stool: teaching, research, and activism. We offer an exciting array of classes, at both the undergraduate and graduate level that interrogates systems of inequality, including gender, sexuality, race, class, ableism, religion, and region of the world.
By choosing to pursue work in women and gender studies, students at all levels engage in an interdisciplinary exploration of gender in social, political, cultural, and economic life; gender in history; women and the media; feminist theory; the relationship between sex and gender; the impact of sex, race, class, disability, and sexual orientation on people’s lives; and the ways in which gender stereotypes influence the self in relationship to others. Students in many courses have the opportunity to investigate these issues from a cross-cultural and global perspective.
