Key Summary

About : The Full-time Access to University Diploma (University Pathway) is designed for students who want to prepare for undergraduate studies. This program offers a comprehensive curriculum that covers essential academic skills and knowledge, helping students ease the transition to university-level education. The course duration is typically one year, allowing students to progress quickly in their academic journey.
Career Outcomes : Graduates will be well-equipped to pursue undergraduate studies in various fields. Potential career paths include roles in education, research, and specialized professional sectors requiring higher qualifications. The program also enhances foundational skills valuable in any workforce setting.

As a full-time student in this program, you will be attending classes at College for approximately 12 hours per week, over a period of 30 weeks.

The Level 3 units are designed to allow students to return to learning. The courses are intended to introduce students to a subject area in a non-threatening, supportive environment. Students will understand the subject area and the study skills necessary for entry to Higher Education. You will be encouraged to draw upon your own experiences and knowledge to contribute to class sessions and will be offered guidance in improving study skills. Classes are attended by various students, many of whom may not have studied for some time. Learning methods will include a mixture of discussion, group work, workshops, and tutorials.

On the Access to HE Diploma, you will choose to study two subjects sets at Level 3.

These include a combination of two subjects: Human Physiology (this science option will be needed for future progression into careers, including nursing, midwifery, and other health careers), Sociology, and Law.

You will attend a total of 5 hours of class sessions per week (for each of your two subject sets) from September until June. A further mandatory subject set of study skills units form the final part of the course. These help you through applying to university and providing you with the necessary academic skills to succeed in the course. You will attend a two-hour study skill session a week from September to June.

Assessment is by a mixture of exams and coursework.

The Access course has two key pathways:

Allied Health Professions: This is designed to provide a pathway into higher education and future careers, including nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, paramedic, and other healthcare-related professions.

Social Sciences: Students have the opportunity to study a combination of Law and Sociology. Popular progression routes include study and/or careers in law, humanities subjects, social work, local government, criminology, and civil service.
