The Master AI-Translator was developed through a national partnership between universities of applied sciences. Avans and Fontys offer this master's programme together as a joint degree. Within this master you will benefit from the expertise of Avans and Fontys, their professional partners and affiliated networks. You will develop your professional growth within a regional ecosystem (Brainport and Midpoint) with strong connections to the business community.
Professional Masters
There are two types of Master’s programmes in The Netherlands: professional Master, offered by Universities of Applied Sciences, and scientific Master, offered by Academic Universities. Although both types of Master’s programmes train to the same level, there is a difference in orientation. Professional Master’s programmes have a focus on practice-based research, whereas scientific Master’s programmes are more focused on research in the academic world. A graduate is expected to be able to adapt to new knowledge and adopt an inquisitive attitude. Knowledge of a limited field of study is no longer sufficient. Innovations, by and large, take place at the intersections of different disciplines. Professional Master’s programmes meet this increasing need for professionals who can operate at these intersections.
Study Load
For the full-time master, you should expect the study load to be 40 hours per week.
Unfortunately, Fontys University of Applied Sciences does not offer any scholarships for this programme. However, students who are citizens of any EU/EEA country, Switzerland or the UK may be eligible for loans or grants via duo.nl.

In one year, you’ll grow into a skilled AI‑translator. The master’s programme has two modules and is fully practice‑based with real cases. You benefit from the expertise and networks of Avans and Fontys in the Brainport and Midpoint ecosystem, closely linked to industry.
What will your study look like?
The programme is hands‑on and research‑driven. You tackle real cases, build a strong portfolio and get close guidance from expert lecturers and research teams. You learn in small groups with inspiration sessions, peer feedback and personal coaching.
The master’s programme has two modules. In “From Data to Algorithm”, you learn to work with data, AI models and workflows, and explore ethical and social impact. In “From Issue to Solution”, you create an AI solution and learn to implement it responsibly in an organisation.
