About

Florida International University (FIU) is one of the largest and most dynamic public research universities in the United States, serving more than 55,000 students across multiple campuses in Miami. As a Top 50 public university and a Carnegie R1 research institution.

FIU is recognized globally for its commitment to innovation, interdisciplinary education, and real-world impact. Located in one of the most diverse and internationally connected cities in the world, FIU serves as a gateway between the Americas and the global marketplace, preparing students to lead in rapidly evolving industries.

Within FIU, the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts (CARTA) plays a central role in shaping the future of media, storytelling, design, and cultural engagement. CARTA’s communications programs emphasize both traditional and emerging forms of media, preparing students to lead in journalism, public relations, digital storytelling, and global communications strategy. Through hands-on learning, industry partnerships, and experiential education, the program equips students with the tools needed to navigate the evolving landscape of media, technology, and audience engagement.

A key initiative within this ecosystem is the D.R.E.A.M.S. Program—Digital Research, Entertainment, Arts, Media, and Sciences—an interdisciplinary platform focused on the future of immersive storytelling, experiential design, and Location-Based Entertainment (LBE). Developed with support from the Dolan Family Foundation, D.R.E.A.M.S. connects students with real-world projects that explore emerging technologies such as augmented reality, artificial intelligence, spatial computing, and interactive media.

Through courses, industry collaborations, and experiential activations, D.R.E.A.M.S. transforms physical environments into living laboratories where students learn how digital experiences intersect with the real world. The program brings together educators, industry leaders, and innovators to prepare the next generation of communicators, creators, and strategists who will shape the future of immersive media and experiential communication.

Together, FIU, CARTA, and the D.R.E.A.M.S. program represent a forward-looking educational model where creativity, technology, and communication converge to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving global media landscape.
