Introduction

In our fast-paced, media-driven world, employers are looking for effective communicators who can engage audiences. As society is overwhelmed by communications, students will learn to cut through the clutter, to become effective, creative, and ethical contributors to the contemporary media culture. Our courses blend communication theory, social media marketing, and creative media production.

Felician University’s award-winning radio station, WRFC, is a state-of-the-art facility where students will have the opportunity to design their show, select music and discussion topics, and run the station’s digital radio equipment.

New York City is a global hub for the technology, media, and entertainment industries. Our proximity to New York City makes the department an ideal place to prepare for a career in communications, social media, and digital culture. You will learn from professionals with industry experience in the “media capital of the world.”

Communication majors select between the two following concentrations:

Digital Media & Culture Concentration

In the Digital Media & Culture (DMC) concentration, students will explore social issues of access and inclusivity with emerging technology such as artificial intelligence and social media. They will learn to create compelling content in multi-media formats such as writing, photography, video, and sound. Additionally, students will leave the program with a Hootsuite Social Media Marketing certificate. The DMC concentration will provide students with the skills they need to be thought leaders and practitioners in the digital media, technology, and entertainment industries.

  • Understand the importance of media and communication throughout history, recognizing the significant contributions from diverse cultures.
  • Communicate ethically and impact contemporary media culture.
  • Build a portfolio of projects that showcase communication and media production abilities.

Journalism Concentration

A Journalism concentration explores the historical and societal roles the media have played and continues to play in the world. Emphasis is placed on the development, production, and distribution of media in its various forms, especially print, broadcast, and internet journalism.
