PPGCOM-UFC was authorized in December 2007 and started its activities in March 2008, with the fundamental objective of strengthening research and teaching in the area of Communication locally. The Program outlined its Concentration Area in order to integrate the basic guidelines of the field of Communication and its languages with the cultural references of contemporary society. Its creation continued the history of training professionals in Communication developed, for more than 50 years, by UFC, in graduation, and, for more than 20 years, at the post-graduate level latu sensu, with specializations in Communication and Image Theories and, more recently, in Audiovisual and Electronic Media and Scientific Journalism - important initiatives in this process of qualifying professionals and researchers in the area, but which, by their very nature, were still focused on , above all, for acting in the professional market. The creation of the Post-Graduation Program in Communication stricto sensu aimed to stimulate training for academic research and higher teaching, supplying an existing vacuum in the State of Ceará and its surroundings.
