The Master's Degree in Occupational Safety and Hygiene Engineering has two main objectives: to train managers with the skills and abilities necessary to develop, coordinate and control activities related to the prevention and protection of occupational risks in the various sectors of economic activity; and to contribute to the development of research in a multidisciplinary, socially sensitive technical and scientific field, placing the FEUP in a prominent position internationally.
MESHO is a multidisciplinary cycle of studies with an emphasis on engineering approaches, but with contributions from other fields of knowledge such as psychology and health sciences.
The defined objectives are:
- train managers with the necessary skills and abilities to develop, coordinate and control occupational risk prevention and protection activities in the various sectors of economic activity;
- contribute to the development of research in a multidisciplinary and socially sensitive technical and scientific field;
- position FEUP as a national leader in a field of knowledge that is developing rapidly at the national level, contributing to the international visibility of our country in this field.
To achieve these objectives, it is structured in two branches: Technology and Security and Emergency.
It has a curricular structure with 48 ECTS in compulsory UCs, 30 ECTS in optional UCs and 42 for the dissertation.
Senior Occupational Health and Safety Technician, level 7.
Partnerships with companies
It is common practice to invite personalities from the business world and the public sector as part of various curricular units, in order to encourage students to have contact with non-academic environments.
In addition, students can carry out their dissertations in a business environment or in research laboratories - and much of the work carried out is part of research projects with public or private funding. The research centres to which the lecturers are affiliated promote technology transfer projects with companies, which allows them to assess the needs of the productive fabric and to promote the presentation of topics for students' dissertations. Companies often contact lecturers to establish collaborations ranging from consultancy to technology transfer. These projects may involve students from the programme and may be the subject of dissertations (subject to appropriate confidentiality conditions).
