About
The West Coast University of Applied Sciences is one of the youngest public universities in Schleswig-Holstein and, in addition to modern facilities, focuses primarily on practice-oriented teaching and excellent student support. A total of around 1,600 students are enrolled, and the individual degree programs emphasize a personalized learning environment and working in small groups. The location in Heide/Holstein is ideally suited for your tourism studies, as the town is close to tourist hotspots such as Büsum, St. Peter-Ording, Sylt, and Hamburg. In short: you study where tourism happens and benefit from strong connections with numerous (regional) industry partners. Furthermore, the German Institute for Tourism Research is located at our university. Because the institute conducts application-oriented research, is networked nationwide, and enjoys an excellent reputation in the field, it can facilitate your entry into the professional world. Through the continuous transfer of current research findings into teaching, we offer you a future-proof course of study.
The West Coast University of Applied Sciences (FH Westküste) is a young and modern public university in Schleswig-Holstein. Founded in 1993, it has experienced rapid growth despite its relatively short history and has established itself as a key player in the higher education landscape. We are committed to the profile of a university of applied sciences and see ourselves as innovative, personal, and dynamic. Currently, nearly 1,600 young women and men from the region, across Germany, and abroad are studying on the campus in Heide. With approximately 200 employees, FH Westküste is also one of the largest employers in the region.
The West Coast University of Applied Sciences combines two departments (Business and Engineering) with a diverse range of Bachelor's and Master's degree programs. All programs share a focus on the demands of the job market. The university collaborates closely with regional businesses and maintains numerous national and international partnerships, including with 40 partner universities worldwide. A practical semester is an integral part of the Bachelor's programs, allowing students to gain initial, in-depth insights into potential career fields and explore entry-level opportunities within companies.
The university's and its institutes' extensive, diverse, and application-oriented research activities, facilitated by intensive knowledge transfer and various collaborative projects, strengthen our ties to the region and help retain our graduates as skilled professionals in Schleswig-Holstein.
The West Coast University of Applied Sciences engages with the public in a variety of ways. In addition to regular open events on campus, the university maintains a presence through its website, profiles on Facebook, Instagram, Xing and LinkedIn, and its own YouTube channel.
A distinctive feature of the West Coast University of Applied Sciences, and one of our hallmarks, is the close support and guidance we provide to students throughout their studies. Individualized support, manageable learning groups, and a welcoming atmosphere define our philosophy. Lecturers who know their students by name are the norm here; overcrowded lecture halls, on the other hand, are a rare sight. The university offers a pleasant learning environment, which contributes to the fact that the vast majority of students complete their degrees within the standard period of study.
The West Coast University of Applied Sciences sees itself as an "open university" and is continuously expanding its range of part-time and continuing education programs for working students. Another focus is on internationalization, including expanding international contacts, internationalizing degree programs, and supporting students' semesters abroad.
