Key Summary
Educators (e.g., general elementary teachers and special education teachers) in todayβs world need a broad understanding of the fundamental right and value of including all children from various backgrounds, including, but not limited to, socio-economic status, language, ethnicity, and ability. This major and professional training program focuses upon educational inclusion for our nationβs increasingly diverse population.
Therefore, this program provides candidates with the understanding and skills necessary to navigate the complex teaching and learning systems within the school and community environments. This program also focuses on skills necessary to meet the needs of students with high-incidence disabilities who are typically taught in regular elementary classrooms.
This program provides coursework and practice that leads to a recommendation for a residency teaching certificate with elementary and special education endorsements. The program is rigorous, and the expectations are high. However, the rewards are also high. School districts actively recruit our graduates to teach in both elementary classrooms and special education settings.
Students seeking a bachelorβs degree with teacher certification and an endorsement in Special Education - P-12 through Teacher Education Outreach Programs located in Bremerton and Everett must complete the Elementary Education Professional Program - Outreach Program and the Education for Inclusive Environments requirements. Program coursework listed below is delivered through a cohort-based, integrated model delivered by elementary and special education faculty. This program is specifically designed for outreach program sites. Courses must be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or better.
