Learn through case studies, summer schools, and a thesis addressing a sustainability problem.
Career Outcomes: Graduates enter industry, consulting, public sector, NGOs, and research. Expect roles like resource efficiency expert, ESG coordinator, environmental manager, CSR specialist, sustainable supply chain specialist, energy consultant, innovation officer or continue to PhD research globally.
The Joint Master’s in Responsible Consumption and Production awards a Master of Science and brings together technology, business and sustainability across nine European universities. The programme develops technical and managerial knowledge in responsible consumption and production. Its content includes recycling, life-cycle assessment, remediation of mining sites, sustainable materials, environmental engineering, stakeholder management, consumer behaviour and resource economics.
The three specialisations focus on sustainable resource management and mining; sustainable materials engineering, advanced manufacturing and energy technologies; or sustainable business strategy, industrial processes, supply-chain management and the integration of socio-economic and environmental dimensions.
- The first semester provides common foundations and is associated with the Technical University of Leoben.
- The second semester focuses on the selected specialisation at a partner university.
- The third semester includes advanced modules, electives or research-based modules and mobility at a second partner university.
- The fourth semester is dedicated to the Master’s thesis, thesis seminar and defence.
The programme leads to roles including resource-efficiency expert, ESG coordinator, sustainability innovation officer, renewable-energy transition consultant and sustainable supply-chain specialist.
Mobility & Joint Diploma
Students will study at TU Leoben and at least one EURECA-PRO partner university abroad. Mobility is embedded in the programme, ensuring exposure to 2–3 academic environments. Upon completion, graduates receive a Joint Diploma, issued by the consortium of participating universities.
This joint master’s is built to help you respond to this global challenge. By combining natural sciences, engineering, and business, you’ll learn how to take on urgent issues like resource depletion and environmental impact – and to play your part in achieving the United Nations’ vision for a sustainable future.
The programme comprises 120 ECTS over four semesters, with 30 ECTS allocated to each semester.
- Semester 1: Common foundation in sustainable development and core responsible consumption and production modules. The main location is the Technical University of Leoben, although courses may vary by starting point.
- Semester 2: Specialisation modules in Resource Supply, Materials, or European Business Strategy & Management at a partner university.
- Semester 3: Advanced modules, electives or research-based modules, with mobility at a second partner university and interdisciplinary projects linked to sustainability challenges.
- Semester 4: Master’s thesis, thesis seminar and defence at the Technical University of Leoben or a partner university, worth 30 ECTS.
The programme includes compulsory study content in sustainable development, sustainability management, decision analysis, project management, life-cycle management, digital economics, logistics and supply-chain management, finance for managers, recycling and ecodesign, life-cycle assessment, carbon capture, utilisation and sequestration, and climate-change topics. Track choices include Resource Supply, Materials, and European Business Strategy & Management.
Students develop technical and managerial competencies for responsible consumption and production. The programme covers sustainable resource management, mining, corporate sustainability, Industry 5.0, sustainable materials engineering, advanced manufacturing, energy technologies, sustainable industrial processes, supply-chain management and the integration of socio-economic and environmental dimensions.
Students also develop expertise through life-cycle assessment, recycling, environmental engineering, stakeholder management, consumer behaviour and resource economics, and complete a Master’s thesis demonstrating their developed expertise and research skills.
Graduates of the RCP programme are expected to be competitive for roles such as resource efficiency expert, specialist in mining or mine-waste management, ESG coordinator, quality analyst, innovation officer for sustainability, energy consultant for the transition to renewable energy, CSR specialist, stakeholder dialogue and sustainability officer, and sustainable logistics or supply-chain specialist.
