Master in Interaction Design: Where Creativity Meets Research at ERAM (UdG)

ERAM University School (University of Girona) is a premier hub for innovative arts and technology in Catalonia. As the digital economy thrives, our Master in Interaction Design (IxD) offers a unique pathway for those who wish to approach technological innovation through the lenses of creativity, empathy, and critical thinking.

While computer science builds the engines, at ERAM we craft the journey: the emotions and meaning that make technology feel natural. Our curriculum blends high-level design studios, prototyping, and UX methods with a strong humanistic perspective.

Why Study at ERAM?

  • Research Excellence: Our program is anchored by the Playful Living Lab. Students work alongside active researchers who contribute to top-tier international conferences in Human-Computer Interaction.
  • Unique Creative Ecosystem: Based in a cultural factory, students are surrounded by filmmakers, performers, and designers, fostering a multidisciplinary ethos that is rare in technical programs.
  • Strategic Location: Located in Girona, a city renowned for its quality of life and cultural richness, we are perfectly positioned near Barcelona’s vibrant tech hub and global events like Mobile World Congress.

Whether you aim to redefine how AI integrates into daily life or pursue a PhD at a leading international institution, ERAM provides the ideal environment to bridge the gap between human experience and digital systems.

Professional Impact

The impact on the student's professional career is direct and strategic, placing them in a leadership position within the digital economy through three main pillars:

  1. High-demand industry roles
Students will be qualified for key roles such as **Interaction Designer, UX/UI Designer, Creative Technologist, Immersive Experience (XR) Designer**, or Strategic Designer. The demand for these profiles is growing significantly above average, particularly in major tech hubs like Catalonia, which has become one of Europe's major technological centers. Companies increasingly seek professionals who can approach technological innovation through non-technical lenses such as **creativity, empathy, and critical thinking**.
  2. Research and investigation capability
The master’s degree represents a **profound change** in how students understand and create technology. **Beyond learning to "build engines," students will learn to "design the journey," focusing on emotions, clarity, and human meaning**. Graduates will be capable of conducting both academic and industrial research, contributing new knowledge to the sector through design-based methodologies. This advanced training, anchored in the research activity of the **Playful Living Lab**, provides a powerful foundation for applying to competitive PhD programs in leading international institutions.
  3. Leadership in innovation
The program prepares students to understand the functioning of the technological innovation sector and provides them with the **skills to lead research, creation, and evaluation processes**. Graduates will be able to manage **multidisciplinary teams**, lead iterative design processes (such as UX Management), and ensure the ethical and strategic alignment of projects within an organization. This includes the capacity to assign roles, dynamize innovation processes, and communicate complex ideas effectively in both industrial and academic settings.

Ultimately, this master's degree transforms a graduate into an architect of the technological future, someone who not only understands the tools, but also knows how to use them to improve people's lives and the well-being of the planet.

The Alumni Network

Alumni are a fundamental part of any educational institution or university. They represent the institution’s legacy and serve as a living testament to its success in training competent and successful professionals.

Alumni are graduates who have passed through the classrooms, laboratories, and learning experiences of the institution. They have acquired knowledge, skills, and experiences that have prepared them to face the challenges of the real world. But their relationship with the institution goes beyond graduation; they are its ambassadors.

These former students contribute to the growth and development of the institution through donations, counselling, mentoring, and participation in events and activities. Their professional success often becomes a testimony to the value of the education they received, attracting new students and strengthening the institution’s reputation.

The alumni network is a continuously growing community that shares a unique connection. Members of this community support each other in their careers, share knowledge and experiences, and collaborate on projects and professional opportunities. Alumni are an endless source of pride for their institution and a constant reminder of the importance of education in shaping leaders and change agents in the world.

In October 2009, the University School of Arts moved to the Coma Cros Cultural Factory in Salt, a hub of ideas and projects that became the ideal setting to carry out its mission.

With its strategic location, the school benefits from the shared facilities of this facility and takes part in the synergies brought by the various entities and businesses that have set up there.

The Coma Cros Cultural Factory is a municipal cultural facility located in Salt, Girona, and it covers an area of 16,000 square meters to achieve its main goal: to become a reference point in the cultural revitalization of the entire northern region of Catalonia.
