Graduates will have the knowledge and skills to contribute to the capacity of electrical engineering and related industries, particularly the power supply industries, to maintain their competitiveness in a global marketplace through the application of latest technologies, value adding to existing products, process and services and the development of new, sustainable and innovative solutions.
Seven threads run through the program to give students maximum, functional coverage in the broad field of electrical engineering. These threads comprise electrical technology fundamentals, distribution equipment and protection, rotating machinery and transformers, energy efficiency, earthing and safety regulations, operation and maintenance of electrical equipment, and power supply maintenance, protection and control.
Graduates will be able to:
- Evaluate contemporary issues in electrical systems engineering
- Differentiate and justify appropriate electrical distribution equipment and network protection systems
- Assess and implement relevant earthing and safety regulations
- Develop appropriate procedures necessary to operate and maintain electrical equipment
- Formulate engineering solutions to scenarios related to electrical and instrumentation systems in the industry.
- Prepare complex technical information and concepts to plan, communicate and implement solutions to a range of engineering environment and contexts
- Analyse, diagnose, plan, design and manage solutions with respect to electrical engineering and environmental and energy management
- Prepare technical information and concepts to plan, communicate and implement solutions to a range of engineering issues relevant to the power industry

You are expected to spend approximately 10-15 hours per week learning the program material and completing assessments. This includes attending weekly webinars that run for about 90 minutes to facilitate class discussion and allow you to ask questions.
