Introduction
The world from a different perspective
Many special processes take place in the world around us. Sometimes these are spectacular and obvious, such as lightning discharges and tornadoes. However, sometimes you need to be a little more attentive. For example, have you ever wondered why very hot objects start to emit light (think glowing steel)? And have you ever noticed that you can see through a glass window as well as that you can see a reflection. These remarkable things from nature are all subject of physics.

Curriculum
Physicists are curious
Many people just take these kinds of phenomena for what they are, but physicists are curious and look at the world around them with different eyes. For them, natural phenomena are challenges, fascinating issues to investigate and unravel.
Converting knowledge into new technological developments
As an applied physicist, you go one step further. You convert your knowledge of these phenomena into new technological developments. You should think of making a fusion reactor possible, making cheaper and faster plastic computer chips or developing better MRI scanners with a higher resolution.
Difference engineering and general physics
The Applied Physics program at TU/e is not called 'technical' for nothing. In Eindhoven, the development of new technologies is central. In this training there is a strong emphasis on the use and application of the acquired knowledge. General physics courses in the Netherlands look at physics in a different – more philosophical – way.
