Doctoral School
Gdańsk University of Technology (Gdańsk Tech) offers education in the Doctoral School which is free of charge, provides a scholarship, and a creative and interdisciplinary approach to research. Our school was founded in 2019 and started functioning as of the academic year 2019/2020. However, the doctoral studies at our university are more than 30 years old.
The Ph.D. training is conducted in 13 disciplines fully in English. Two of these are also offered within our cooperation with the two institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences, both based in Gdańsk - the Szewalski Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery (discipline: mechanical engineering) and the Institute of Hydro-Engineering (discipline: civil engineering and transport). All of these programs are interdisciplinary.

Curriculum
Economics
PhD program in social sciences is run at the Faculty of Management and Economics (Gdansk Tech) and offers 4-year-long PhD training in two alternative disciplines: (1) Economics and Finance and (2) Management and Quality Studies. The program is designed for students interested in advanced training and conducting theoretical or empirical/applied research related to economics, management, business studies, or finance.
Given the research profile of the faculty, the main areas of specialisation refer to: (i) broadly understood International Economics, (ii) Corporate Finance and Financial markets, (iii) various aspects of Organisational Behaviour, Management and Quality Research. Potential research topics offered in academic year 2022/2023 include (but are not limited to): international trade, global value chains, digital and energy transition, labour economics, financial markets, forecasting, bankruptcy and risk, socio-economic development, technological progress, sport economy, public management, smart cities, knowledge management, innovation management, sustainability, organizational behaviour, information security management, cybersecurity, company culture and organisational learning.
The program offers an extensive training on theoretical underpinnings of modern economic/management studies and on advanced empirical research methods using macro- and micro-economic data.
The graduates of this PhD programme will be prepared to continue their career in academia (mainly in the departments of macro-/micro-economics, international economics, economic analysis or finance, management), in research institutions or think-tanks, business sector (multinational companies), financial sector (banks, insurance companies), public administration or in international economic and financial institutions.
