Enrollment Steps for F-1 International Students

Below are the enrollment steps for F-1 international students as you prepare to enroll at Dallas College. Please refer to Admission Requirements for International Students for further details on specific admission requirements and policies.

Step 1: Apply

Step 2: Submit Documents for International Admission

Once you have successfully submitted your application, you will immediately see several Application Requirements. Please begin to complete each application requirements by viewing its description and uploading the appropriate documentation. F-1 students can use the F-1 Admission Checklist to help gather any required documents before uploading. If you have any questions about any of the application requirements or believe an application requirement has been incorrectly assigned to you, please contact international@dallascollege.edu with details of the issue. Once all application requirements are complete, please allow 15 business days to be issued a Form I-20 and/or letter of acceptance.

Step 3: Assessment Requirements

Initial and Change of Status applicants must provide proof of English proficiency level prior to the issuance of an I-20 or a letter of acceptance. Please refer to Admission Requirements for International Students for further details. Transfer applicants will be assessed for program level prior to registration, but after acceptance. All applicants must meet TSIA2 testing/status requirements or provide proof of exemption prior to enrolling in a college level program.

Step 4: Acceptance Letter and I-20

After you complete Steps 1-3, a DSO will review your application to verify all documents are received and you meet the qualifications for admission.

If you are a new student from outside the United States, you will receive an official acceptance letter signed by a DSO and an initial I-20 that you can use for your visa appointment.

If you are a transfer student attending a school from inside the United States, you will receive an official acceptance letter signed by a DSO that you may submit to your current school to release your SEVIS record to Dallas College.

Dallas College issues Form I-20, “Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status" to prospective international students. The Form I-20 is used to apply for an F-1 student visa at a United States Embassy. In order for an international student to attend Dallas College, they will need to be approved for an F-1 visa and maintain the validity of that visa status in the United States. Once a student has applied to Dallas College and submitted all required documentation, a Form I-20 is issued along with an acceptance letter and instructions to apply for the F-1 visa.
