Introduction
The science of civil engineering covers a wide range of people's daily needs and its achievements are visible in every modern built environment. The construction of high-quality earthquake-proof buildings, bridges, dams, ports and modern road networks and ensuring the supply of drinking water are some of these achievements. In addition to improving people's quality of life, the modern understanding of civil engineering also includes the concept of sustainability, which is intertwined with a range of environmental issues.
The program is four years long and includes compulsory foundation courses and advanced specialization courses, English language courses for academic purposes and elective and in-depth courses.
The program offers high-level theoretical scientific knowledge through courses in strength of materials, geodesy, hydraulics, structural analysis, soil mechanics, road construction, reinforced concrete, sustainability, environmental impact of projects, foundations, drainage systems, earthquake engineering, coke project management.
The first year courses are shared with the Surveying Engineering and Geoinformatics Engineering program. In the following years of study there is a gradually decreasing overlap, while specialization and flexibility in the choice of specialized courses increase in the final years. From their third year of study, students have the opportunity to diversify their specialization by choosing various courses from three course streams. These course streams fully cover the core knowledge of Infrastructure Engineering (INFRA), Building Statistics (DOMO) and Geoinformatics (GEO).
During the summer periods, after the 4th and 6th semesters of study, all students are placed for internship purposes (8 weeks per term) in companies and organizations in fields related to their studies. During the 4th year of study, students prepare a thesis under the supervision of academics of the Department.
Graduates are registered as members of the Scientific and Technical Chamber of Cyprus (ETEK) enjoying all the professional rights of an Engineer.
