The study program "Specialised Law Studies" is a new Master’s program taught in English, offering specialized legal education focused on contemporary challenges in a changing global context. Unique in its emphasis on the European perspective, the program combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills, preparing students to address legal issues in international — particularly European — environments.
The goal of the program is to provide students with a deep understanding of the European context of law-making and law application in a rapidly changing world. The program emphasizes critical analysis and the ability to apply both legal principles and specific legal norms across various contexts.
Business and Competition Law
This specialization focuses on key aspects of business law and competition law, including legal frameworks governing commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and the regulation of competition at national, European, and international levels.
Within the field of Business and Competition Law, graduates will gain knowledge of legal regulations in commercial law, company law, and unfair competition law, as well as the rights and obligations of entrepreneurs governed by European and international law, with a particular focus on multinational corporations and diplomacy.
Successful completion of the program requires demonstrating the ability to work independently with professional texts and to apply legal rules precisely. Graduates of the program will be well-prepared for doctoral studies in law at Charles University or at other — particularly foreign — universities.
Graduates of the program will acquire professional skills in applying international and European legal norms to both national and transnational cases. Thanks to the program’s interactive approach to teaching, graduates will develop strong abilities in legal reasoning and argumentation — even in complex cases — drawing on the latest case law of international and European courts, as well as the most up-to-date developments in their chosen specialization.
Graduates of the Specialised Law Studies programme will be well prepared for professional careers in a variety of international contexts. Depending on their chosen specialisation, they may work as legal consultants in multinational corporations, policy advisers in international organisations, or experts in NGOs focusing on human rights or healthcare. The skills acquired in this programme – including the ability to analyse complex cases, argue persuasively, and apply law across different jurisdictions – are highly valued in the global job market.
In addition, the programme offers a solid academic foundation for those interested in pursuing further studies. Graduates will have excellent preparation for doctoral programmes in law, whether at Charles University or at prestigious universities abroad.
It should be noted that this programme does not qualify graduates for regulated legal professions such as judges, attorneys, notaries, prosecutors, or bailiffs. Instead, it is designed for students who seek to expand their expertise in specialised legal fields with a strong international and European orientation, and who wish to apply their knowledge in diverse professional environments.
By joining this programme, students become part of a vibrant academic community at one of the oldest and most respected universities in Europe. They gain specialised knowledge, international experience, and practical skills that will open doors to professional opportunities worldwide. Most importantly, they develop the ability to view law not only as a system of rules but also as a living instrument that responds to global change and shapes the societies in which we live.
