Introduction

The Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice focuses on the study of the criminal justice system and its component parts, as well as the causes and consequences of crime. The degree program stresses an integrated view of the criminal justice system, highlighting relationships between system components. The curriculum is designed to provide students with a foundation core of knowledge of the criminal justice system that will prepare students for careers in the law enforcement fields of policing and criminal investigations, as well as security, corrections, probation, and parole.

Concentrations

  • Public Management concentration focuses primarily on the management of public sector organizations. For criminal justice students, the goal of this concentration is to develop skills required by individuals who manage criminal justice and security organizations and those who develop and evaluate policies. The public management concentration provides marketable management and leadership competencies that can be directly applied in the workplace while instilling essential values to ensure students thrive upon graduation in their careers as public servants.
  • Homeland Security concentration provides a unique opportunity for students interested in focusing their studies on the vast areas included in the complex arena of homeland security. The focus of this concentration is to provide a comprehensive study of complex areas facing our nation such as immigration policy, border security, customs enforcement, cybercrime, and the evaluation of public policies in these areas.
  • Information Assurance and Cyber Defense concentration allows students to master essential skills in understanding network defense, database management systems, cybercrime, cybersecurity, and security design and cryptography.

Upon Graduation

Program graduates can expect to be well prepared for entry level jobs in any number of areas within the vast field of criminal justice including criminal investigator, police officer, customs officer, probation and parole officer, border patrol agent, federal air marshal, transportation security screener, private sector security professional, and many others. Additionally, program graduates will have achieved a solid foundation for future success in graduate school or furtherance of their careers.

Cost & Fees

The tuition rate for the 2016-2017 academic year for in-state students is $102.13 per credit hour. The non-resident tuition rate is $377.40 per credit hour.
