Key Summary
The BSc Computational Finance and Financial Technology major has two streams, namely (1) Computational Finance Stream and (2) Financial Technology Stream.
Computational Finance stream is an interdisciplinary stream offering a comprehensive curriculum that covers state-of-the-art training in finance, mathematics, statistics and computer programming. The integrated application of these four areas is in great demand by today’s financial markets.
Financial Technology stream gives students an interdisciplinary education in business, information technology, and innovation by training them in mathematics, statistics, programming, information systems, and finance. The FinTech core courses include blockchain, big data, cybersecurity, regulatory technology (RegTech), Python programming, machine learning, technology entrepreneurship, and Fintech capstone project.
Students from both Computational Finance and Financial Technology streams can apply for admission to the Joint Bachelor's Degree Program between City University of Hong Kong and Columbia University. Upon completion of this joint degree program, students will receive the dual awards conferred by Columbia University and CityUHK.
The major aims to provide students with solid research, quantitative, and technology training in finance. Students can broaden their learning by taking courses related with both Computational Finance and Financial Technology. In addition, students may opt for the two streams, namely the Computational Finance (ComFin) Stream or the Financial Technology (FinTech) Stream, to enhance student-specific training in the stream.
The ComFin stream prepares students for graduate studies in business and careers in the financial industry that require high-caliber quantitative and analytical skills. It gives students an interdisciplinary education in business. It includes training in mathematics, statistics, computer programming, and finance.
The FinTech stream prepares students for graduate studies in business and careers in the emerging FinTech industry that require solid technology training and finance domain knowledge. It gives students an interdisciplinary education in business, information technology, and innovation by training them in mathematics, statistics, programming, information systems, and finance.
BSc Computational Finance and Financial Technology programme offers you:

Service Learning participants also provide voluntary services in less developed areas such as the Philippines, Thailand, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, and Laos.

Computational Finance stream provides comprehensive training and internship opportunities to prepare students to establish competitive advantages in financial careers such as asset management, investment banking, and risk management, as well as further advanced studies.
Financial Technology stream prepares students for careers in the emerging FinTech industry and business and technology sectors that require solid technology training and finance domain knowledge as well as further advanced studies.
Entrance Scholarship Scheme
CityUHK has an Entrance Scholarship Scheme for international students with excellent academic performance who are admitted to full-time government-funded bachelor's degree programmes.
The Scheme offers three kinds of scholarships:
- Top Scholarships of HKD210,000 (approximately USD27,000), covering annual tuition fees, university-managed accommodation and partial living expenses
- Full Tuition Scholarships, covering annual tuition fees (approximately USD21,800)
- Half Tuition Scholarships, covering half of the annual tuition fees (approximately USD10,900)
Applicants do not have to apply for these scholarships. The appropriate level of scholarship is awarded based on merit. Students who receive the scholarship are required to attain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.2 or above each year throughout their period of study in order to renew the scholarship.
Diversity Grant
Non-local students admitted from underrepresented nationalities except Top Scholarship recipients will be eligible for the new grant of HKD 30,000 per annum.
Awardees will be required to engage in a volunteer activity to enhance internationalisation of CityUHK annually. The grant will be paid in installments and automatically renewed each year.
HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund
The Fund supports outstanding non-local students to pursue undergraduate studies in Hong Kong, with targeted scholarships made available to first-year full-time students from countries/regions along the Belt and Road, such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar and Mongolia.
Outstanding Athletes Entrance Scholarship for Non-Local Students
This scheme is to provide opportunities for outstanding student athletes to study in CityUHK. Through the provisions of scholarships, it is hoped to attract high performing international athletes to CityUHK and further enhance the performance of university sports teams. Selected students will be able to receive Outstanding Athletes Entrance Scholarship of up to HK$200,000 (approximately USD25,600) per annum for International / Continental Level.
