Key Summary

About: The MSc in Hazardous Substance and Environmental Management at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, is Thailand’s first programme on hazardous waste management. IP-HSM and the Center of Excellence on Hazardous Substance Management offer MSc and PhD tracks for science or engineering graduates. Students learn from international and Thai faculty, research in English across engineering, science and the Environmental Research Institute, and study in a 2:1 student-to-faculty setting; the programme admits about 15 MSc and 10 PhD students yearly.

Career Outcomes: Graduates pursue roles like environmental consultant, waste management specialist, remediation engineer, risk assessor, compliance officer, in government, industry, NGOs and academia. Skills in toxicology, pollution control, sustainability, monitoring and project management support careers in consultancy, regulatory agencies, industrial firms, environmental laboratories and research institutions.

The IP-HSM in partnership with the Center of Excellence on Hazardous Substance Management (HSM) of Thailand is the first program in Thailand that focuses on hazardous waste management. The program offers MSc and Ph.D. degrees to students with a science or engineering background. The program provides students with the opportunities to study with renowned foreign professors, Thai faculty members, and native English class instructors throughout their studies. Students have opportunities to conduct their research with professors and researchers from three organizations of Chulalongkorn University, including the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Science, and Environmental Research Institute. The global educational environment and low student-to-faculty ratio (2:1) have made the program attractive and highly competitive for students worldwide.
