Introduction
Master multi-disciplinary product development while taking user needs and the full life cycle of a product into consideration. Product development is a core industrial activity encompassing a great many diverse challenges — a multidisciplinary process of identifying and imagining the wishes of companies, end users, and wider society, and bringing those wishes to reality.
This master's program is aimed at students with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, automation, mechatronics, industrial economics, industrial design, or equivalent, with the ambition and drive to help develop the next generation of outstanding products.
Customer expectations of products are constantly growing. But to ensure a profitable business and sustainable society, the consumption of resources in the phases of development and production must decrease. Meeting the demands of these two demands is a complex challenge of the utmost importance.
Modern product development is typically characterized by multi-disciplinary, international teamwork, as well as simultaneous consideration of several issues related to the product and its life cycle. A diversity of perspectives is therefore of utmost importance, and so international students, who can help contribute fresh viewpoints and unique experiences, are always greatly appreciated. International students in the program also typically appreciate the open study climate and easy access to teachers and professors characteristic of studies at Chalmers and in this program.
As a student, you will acquire the knowledge and practical skills necessary to master multi-disciplinary product development while taking all phases of the product life cycle into consideration. One of the most central parts of the program is a course called ‘Product Development Project’, in which student teams plan and execute a development project for a product, with the intent to solve a real-world industrial problem, carried out in close collaboration with one of the many external industrial partners we collaborate with.
Students also have the opportunity to grow their knowledge in areas very closely related to product development, including business development, product innovation, and manufacturing. Graduates of the program thereby acquire a broad range of skills and are well-placed for a variety of career paths, including R&D for large corporations, business development, start-up entrepreneurship, consultancy, or research. You will have the opportunity to tailor the program to your interests by choosing courses offered in both technical and management areas.
Scholarships and Funding
