Introduction

This unit fosters the development of a range of academic skills required for success in the study of the liberal arts, including skills involved in note taking, academic reading, academic writing and tutorial presentation. The writing component involves a particular focus on the skills involved in the writing of an academic essay, and addresses requirements to do with content knowledge, research and critical reading, note taking, academic writing, structuring and developing arguments, referencing, and time management. The presentation component covers the preparation for, structuring of, and delivery of, tutorial presentations and critical reviews. Students are required to complete a range of assessment tasks directly related to study skills and drawn from the assessment tasks in other unit being studied currently.
