Key Summary
The MSc Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship is an exciting masters course offered by AMBS; home to Europe's largest number of innovation researchers.
Learn how new, innovative products get to market, how companies introduce innovation and how enterprises set up new ventures. Engage with the challenges faced by individual entrepreneurs, small and large companies and governments in delivering innovation.
The course is taught by members of the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research – a world-leading centre of excellence in the study of science, technology and innovation policy and management.
Course units details
During the course you will be taking 180 credits in total. The eight taught modules during semester one and two total 120 credits. During the summer you will complete a dissertation (60 credits).

Coursework and assessment
Units are typically assessed by a combination of written work (essay or report), presentation, group project and examination.
- Gain a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities of innovation across diverse sectors - from startups and global corporations to public institutions and emerging technologies.
- Understand new business models and the challenges of innovation for environmental sustainability.
- Learn how to research a technology, company, sector or country case in order to answer key questions about innovation management, strategy, policy or future trends.
- Learn how the innovation process works, how firms successfully manage innovation and how new, innovative products get to market.
- Appreciate the challenges and opportunities created by emerging technologies and the social and economic changes that can accompany them.
- Gain knowledge of techniques widely used in the management of innovation and entrepreneurship and develop practical skills in their application.

This course is a 12 month full-time course, based in Manchester. All our MSc courses are taught in Manchester only; they are not available to study online.
Teaching and Learning
The course is delivered by leading academics from the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research, along with colleagues from the Masood Entrepreneurship Centre. Staff have practical experience of innovation strategy, technology policy, sustainability and innovative entrepreneurship and work closely with practitioners, drawing on that knowledge and experience and those links in their teaching. Cutting edge research is combined with real cases from around the world and a range of teaching methods to deliver an engaging, interdisciplinary and practice oriented grounding in innovation management and innovative entrepreneurship.
