Both certificates are proof that BUT meets the criteria of the EU in the area of higher education, and in addition, they make a major contribution towards broadening mobility and increasing the internationalisation of the university.
The university cooperates with both EU and non-EU partners (currently has over 600 agreements) and is engaged in various mobility programmes (Erasmus+, CEEPUS, Aktion, EEA and Norway Grants, etc.).The universityโs long-term plan is to strengthen its position among the leading, internationally respected research universities. International cooperation is, therefore, one of the strategic priorities of Brno University of Technology. To be able to achieve this aim, BUT undertakes on the one hand activities targeted at recruiting more international students, but also on the other hand, hiring researchers and teachers from abroad. As a member of the European University Association (EUA), CESAER and other organisations, BUT is active in joint projects and activities.
BUT has been cooperating with the leading international companies such as ล koda Auto, Siemens, FEI, Honeywell, Bosch and IBM on a long-term basis.BUT links these companies with students who have the opportunity to pursue an internship related to their field of study or even to be supervised by industry experts while working on their theses. Almost all services are located in close proximity to the campus โ canteens, cafรฉs, sports grounds, the International Student Club and university clubs. BUT dormitories were among the TOP three in a competition for the best halls of residence in the Czech Republic, which testifies to their good quality. Most university buildings are situated at the University Campus (Pod Palackeho Vrchem) in the northern part of the city of Brno.
The university has many catering facilities available at faculties and student halls, which include: cafeterias, restaurants, pizzerias, cafรฉs, bars and snack bars. There is a broad choice of menus in the form of hot and cold, made-to-order, special diet and vegetarian meals in the cafeterias and restaurants. There is a computerised food services system for online ordering and cash-free payment with student cards.
The Admission requirements are quite easy to grasp. You need:
- no relevant previous field of study,
- no score or grades from these studies,
- no academic or working background.
So, what will you actually need?
- To complete the previous level of education and receive a diploma/certificate. Have its copy verified and request their recognition by sending it by post to your BUT Faculty.
Now we need to make clear that every Faculty is managing their own admission process and requirements independently, so this information may be different on a case-by-case basis. You need to:
- prove your language proficiency, either by submitting an English language >=B1 level certificate, or going through an English test during an entrance exam, or having an official document (certificate) proving your previous education was in the English language.
- pass an entrance exam, or no need if the study programme does not feature it;
- submit other documents (CV, portfolio, etc.) if the study programme requests it (but most of them don't).
Everyone who is not a citizen of the EU (plus Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and Iceland) and does not own a Schengen visa needs a visa in order to come to study in the Czech Republic.
What does the application process look like?
After your application, admission, and acceptance, you receive aย Letter of Acceptance, an official letter from the university delivered physically to your home address. You then can either apply for accomodation at our student dormitories or find a private accomodation on your own - from both you would need a Proof of Accomodation. Only when you have those two documents can you contact your Czech Embassy and schedule an appointment in order to receive a long-term visa for study purposes. With a visa received, you can schedule your travels here and enrol in September.
Students have multiple scholarship options that they can apply for. All BUT students without permanent residence in Brno are eligible to receive an accommodation scholarship every 4 months (the amount is determined by the Rector, approximately 23 โฌ / month). BUT also grants a scholarship for outstanding study results. For more information about BUT scholarships, you can look at the consolidated version of the scholarship rules of BUT or scholarships offered by the South Moravian Centre for International Mobility. There are also government and other country-wide scholarships for students, and you can look at the study in Czechia website.
