Introduction
The Graduate Tax Program’s online option affords active practitioners a flexible way to earn BU Law’s highly ranked LLM in Taxation degree. Students can complete the 24 credits required for the LLM in Taxation degree on a full-time or part-time basis. Full-time students complete the degree in two sessions, while part-time students may complete the degree in as few as four consecutive sessions or over the course of four years, depending on the demands of their schedules.
Top-ranked, flexible program. Same degree.
In designing an online option for one of the oldest Tax LLM Programs in the US, it was crucially important to ensure that the same quality that the program is known for is experienced by online students. As a result, all Tax LLM students, whether enrolled residentially or online receive the same high-quality instruction from our renowned faculty. In addition, all students receive individualized academic advising and professional development resources and are eligible to participate in employer recruiting events during the final year of their studies. No additional notation is added on LLM in Taxation diplomas and transcripts between residential and online courses or degrees.
The majority of students are experienced attorneys working in a variety of legal settings across the United States and abroad. Admission to the Graduate Tax Program’s online option is selective, and applicants must meet all the same requirements as residential applicants. To apply, applicants must hold a first degree in law (JD or LLB) from an accredited US law school, or law school abroad.
Students enrolled in the online option pay the same LLM tuition rate as residential Tax LLM students.
Ideal Students
Ideal for lawyers whose jobs preclude them from attending BU’s residential program in Boston, the program’s format allows students to begin their course of study in any of three sessions — fall, spring, or summer — and enroll in a variety of specialized tax courses.
Curriculum
As a Tax LLM student, you have access to one of the most comprehensive curricula for advanced tax studies in the country, with over 40 unique courses offered each year. All courses are available to both online and residential students. Concentrations and Emphasis Areas are available in Estate Planning, General Business Taxation, International Taxation, Transfer Pricing, and Financial Services.
All residential course lectures are captured and streamed through the course site within 24 hours of each course meeting, allowing residential and online students to view the same lectures. The program also offers a small number of fully-online courses that include comprehensive modules and a combination of lectures and other supplemental materials. The majority of courses have assigned teaching assistants who answer questions and support the learning experience for all students. All video content and text-searchable transcripts of course lectures are available to students throughout the course for review on demand and closed captioning are available for all course lecture videos.
