Introduction

Program objectives: Training of highly skilled experts, oriented to practical maritime-operational workable to meet competition requirements existing in Georgian, Ukrainian and international educational and labour markets, who will: have field and transferable competencies corresponding to the effective Law of Georgia (including, the Law of Georgia on Training and Certification of Mariners) and Ukraine, and to the bachelor’s academic degree; theoretical knowledge and practical skills, required for the professional activity in accordance with international conventions, statutory documents and standards (namely, International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW-78/95), statutory documents of IMO etc.); motivation of continuing updating of knowledge and improvement of competencies, fulfillment of official duties and professional development, observance of ethical standards, participation in the process of formation and introduction of values; be able to fulfill official (ship engineer’s) duties as a result of combination of theoretical and practical aspects of complex issues of the industry, evaluate/analyze situation and information/data using industry-specific and some distinct methods, understand cause-effect relationship of a problem and make corresponding decisions within the scope of his competence, fulfill their official duties with proper usage of nautical terms in English and Russian, communicate in writing and verbally with ship’s multinational crew, field experts, nonspecialists etc., understand and interpret special information (instructions, rules etc.), use information and communication technologies and special software, comply with the requirements of international maritime conventions and rules of safety at seas etc.; continue study at next level of higher education (Master’s degree programme), realize his abilities in public or professional activity, career development as a result of successful activity - in accordance with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW78/95) and Law of Georgia on Training and Certification of Mariners, programme alumni can gradually obtain next rank of ship engineer of commanding staff of ocean-going and trade ship on the basis of recognized term of service on a ship and corresponding training and hold the position from watch engineer to chief engineer.
