About

The Department of Environmental Studies provides the first undergraduate program in environmental studies in Louisville, leads campus-wide initiatives in environmental sustainability, provides a home for faculty research in environmental science and land use planning, and directs the new Bellarmine University Farm. Recent growth in green business ventures and environmentally sustainable practices suggest that future economic opportunities—for both individuals and cities—will be heavily influenced by environmental concerns. The department’s formation is the realization of Bellarmine’s commitment to educate students for the 21st century, as well as its mission to enhance the intellectual, social, and environmental quality of life in the region.

Bellarmine University is a vibrant community of educational excellence and ethical awareness that consistently ranks among the nation's best colleges and universities. Our students pursue an education based on the liberal arts – and in the distinguished, inclusive Catholic tradition of educational excellence, the oldest and most rewarding in the western world. It is a lifelong education, worthy of the university's namesake, Saint Robert Bellarmine, and of his invitation to each of us to learn and live in Veritatis more – in the love of all that is beautiful, true, and good in life.
