Introduction
BA in Interdisciplinary Studies
The curriculum for AUR’s Interdisciplinary Studies degree leaves ample room for personal variation so that students, in conjunction with their academic advisor can tailor their studies to their own particular interests. This program is recommended for students whose interests do not fall under a single conventional academic heading.
Crossing intellectual barriers and making connections between different forms of evidence is at the heart of the major in Interdisciplinary Studies. This degree enables undergraduates, in conjunction with their academic advisor, to foster and develop personal interests and assemble a program of “clusters” of courses that do not fall either within The American University’s existing range of degree program options or under a single, conventional, academic heading. In particular, students are encouraged to take advantage of The American University’s unique situation in Rome and utilize a wide range of the city’s resources. While building upon the objectives of the various departments, the students’ own tailor-made program promotes individualism, encourages bi-lateral thinking and research across a range of subjects.
