Civil engineers plan, design, implement and manage projects for the construction or repair of all aspects of infrastructure such as buildings, roads, and power supplies. These are basic features needed in any society.

Civil engineers are trusted by society to provide solutions that are sustainable, and resilient and enhance the quality of life. They organize and manage environmental and natural resources, are innovative users of technology, manage risk and uncertainty and are leaders in discussions and decisions in shaping public, environmental and infrastructure policies. Civil Engineers future work will include adapting the built environment and infrastructure to new civil engineering materials, autonomous vehicles, green infrastructure, and technologies.

Civil engineers may specialize in foundation analysis, building and structural inspection, surveying, geomatics, and municipal planning. Civil engineers are employed by engineering consulting companies, in all levels of government, by construction firms and in many other industries, or they might be self-employed.

Program Details

In the first two years, students will focus on completing the university’s General Education Program (42 US credits / 84 ECTS), which introduces five thematic areas: communication, data and quantitative literature, scientific inquiry, arts and humanities, and social sciences. In the third and fourth years, students will focus on topics relevant to their major.
