Introduction
The Graduate Diploma in Tourism Management (GDTM) is a one-year programme comprising seven courses, designed for students who have a bachelor’s degree in a discipline other than Tourism Management who wish to broaden their career options. For some students, it is a prelude to postgraduate study in Tourism Management; for others, it is a bridge into an employment situation which meaningfully utilizes their dual skill set.

National tourist offices, travel agencies, reservations, marketing and sales, events organization and management, tour operators, airlines, and transportation companies, resorts and hospitality providers, heritage bodies, environment and conservation agencies, customer service.
Programme Information
The programme comprises seven courses, including:
3.119 Principles of Tourism
3.222 Tourism and Hospitality Management
3.317 Tourism Policy Planning and Development
Plus one Stage 2 and three Stage 3 elective courses selected from Tourism Management, Hospitality Management or Business.
Internship Option: 3.398 Tourism Internship may be taken in place of two Stage 3 elective courses and comprises an internship of 20 hours per week over 12 weeks (240 hours minimum), subject to NZQA approval.
Entry Requirements
- Bachelor degree at least equivalent to New Zealand pass standard; and
- IELTS 6.0 with no individual band lower than 5.5 / TOEFL iBT 60 (with a writing score of 18) / Pearson 50 / TEP 52 or equivalent with no band less than 12
- Candidates without a Bachelor degree but with an appropriate mix of a lesser qualification and work experience may be approved for special admission by the Academic Board
