Introduction

The ship and Yacht Design undergraduate programme aim to build an international reputation and has been developed in conjunction with the industry to ensure essential skills in both the design and production of ships and yachts are covered. Students on this new programme will study basic design and engineering science underlying great design and the fundamental principles of naval architecture, construction methods, and high-tech fibre reinforced composite materials. Planning and management processes for the efficient, effective production of racing sailing yachts, rigid inflatable boats, motor yachts, cruising yachts, patrol boats and commercial crafts are also key elements in the curriculum. A strong practical emphasis is present throughout the programme, allowing students to gain valuable knowledge of hands-on examples, design applications, and workshop experience in production methods and materials.

Career Opportunities: Suitable roles and positions for graduates include yacht design offices and yacht production yards, and opportunities in naval architect offices, equipment design, project management, technical management of new construction, design and production engineering, marine equipment design and manufacture.
