Thesis track

The track includes theoretical courses, advanced courses in mathematics, and research work. As part of the studies, research is conducted at a level appropriate to publication in the scientific literature. Theoretical studies amounting to 9 courses (24 credits) must be completed, as well as research work amounting to 24 credit points. The chair of the departmental Graduate Studies Committee approves the courses chosen by the student following the recommendation of the supervisor. In special cases, the committee may approve taking courses from other departments related to the research topic.

Students are required to attend departmental seminars.

Non–thesis track

The curriculum of the two-year non-thesis track in electrical and electronics engineering includes theoretical courses, a final project, and advanced courses in mathematics. Students complete 15 courses of theoretical studies (42 credits). The weight of the project is 6 credits.

A direct track to Ph.D. is also available.

During the degree, students choose one of the eight possible specializations:

* To transition to the next year a student must have an average of at least 70 and pass each course at 65.

Specializations for a master’s degree in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics

Quantum Sensing and Technology – The track is designed to provide the student with tools in the field of quantum technology that will help him integrate into research in industry in this field. The courses in the proposed track deal with quantum technology from various aspects familiarizing the student with the field. The scope of this is rapidly increasing with the development of quantum devices, quantum materials, quantum optics, quantum computation, quantum properties, and even numerical calculations to solve quantum problems.

Electro-optics – The track will provide the student with a broad knowledge of various topics related to the field, such as sources and detectors, lasers, optical systems, combining optics in medicine and biology, optical communication, non-lunar optics, sensors, and material characterization. In terms of thesis, the master fit into one of the research tracks investigated by faculty members: diffuser imaging, medical imaging, brilliance scattering and other non-linear effects in optical fiber, Raman amplified spectroscopy using nanometer particles (nanophotonics), radar development innovative optical, fiber-based sensors, characterization of diseases in the body in a non-invasive optical way and more.

Control – This track provides the student with a theoretical background in the following topics: advanced methods for developing control systems, methods for optimal control and optimal evaluation, and methods for developing digital and adaptive control systems. The student can fit into one of the following research tracks: methods for the development and computer analysis of continuous/solitary (complex) control systems over time, methods for computer development, optimization and simulation of motion control systems and domesticated systems, and development of control systems for restraining buildings during earthquakes.

Computers – The track provides the student with knowledge in a wide range of subjects, such as information theory, learning systems, Java programming, and computer-embedded systems. For the thesis, the student will choose one of the existing research tracks that include: learning systems, design, and algorithm development on parallel computing platforms on an FPGA or a computer with a GPU.

Electromagnetic radiation – This track provides broad knowledge and understanding in the field of electromagnetic radiation and constitutes appropriate training for work in the field of wireless communication (television, radio, Internet, and cellular). Many faculty members in the department specialize in a variety of topics that belong to this field and also operate within the framework of a knowledge center for sources and uses of electromagnetic radiation. As part of the research work, the student will fit into one of the existing research tracks: developing powerful sources, developing innovative uses, intrusive imaging through a blocking medium, developing wide-band wireless communication channels, spreading waves in the atmosphere, and more. The track will provide extensive knowledge in the following topics: static and mobile wireless communication, limitations in communication channels such as Multipath fading, Diversity methods, PLL, transmission lines, frequency conversion components, Intermodulation, Spurious, fiber optic communication, and more. For the thesis, the student can choose any topic in the area of communications:

Blind Equalization, Synchronization in OFDM / MIMO OFDM, Synchronization in single carrier modulation, analog and digital modulation methods for audio-video and data transfer, indoor and outdoor wireless and cellular communications, spread-spectrum and low probability of intercept (LPI) techniques, secure communications.

Signal Processing – The track will provide the student with in-depth and broad knowledge in the design of coefficients in FIR filters in the various methods, in-depth knowledge of multi-rhythm work, practical structures for realizing rhythm substitutes, Polyphase filters, multi-stage filters, bank filters, QMF filters, perfect recovery, GLP filters, and their uniform presentation. This track also familiarises the student with the considerations for choosing one filter or another in terms of calculation efficiency and sensitivity to the effects of a final word length. In terms of thesis, the student can choose any topic relevant to signal processing or combine signal processing with another field (such as digital communication).

Biomedical Engineering – This track provides broad knowledge and understanding in the field of biomedical engineering and provides the student with knowledge of existing medical equipment in hospitals and medical research institutions such as medical imaging systems, bio feed sensors, laboratory measurement systems, characterization of medical measurement systems, biomedical instrumentation classification. Lasers and optics in medicine as well as studies of human anatomy and physiology. The student can choose between the research topics offered in the track, with some of the research work being done in collaboration with various departments at the university, as well as with hospitals in the country.

Strong current – the track provides the student with knowledge in the following topics: electrical machines, high voltage conduction network theory, electromagnetic and electromechanical transition phenomena in power supply systems, high voltage technique and high and low voltage installations, electrical measurements in high and high voltage networks, relay protection for power supply systems. Electrical installations for substations and power plants, theory of high and upper voltage power supply systems, advanced power electronics, advanced electric propulsion and control of power systems, and the quality of electricity in low and high voltage power grids. Regarding the research topic, the student will be involved in one of the topics researched by faculty members, such as theoretical and practical analysis of the state of electricity quality in networks with different voltage distortion sources, measurement parameters of probabilistic phenomena in changes of voltages, currents and current distortions in high voltage networks. Power equipment and electronic equipment for various voltage distortions and saving electrical energy.

Microelectronics and Electronic Devices – In this track the student will acquire knowledge in technologies of minimizing modern electronics, physics, and technology of semiconductors and superconductors, micromolecules and nano molecules, and quantum processes in electronic components. In terms of thesis research topics, the student will be integrated into one of the theoretical and experimental research areas researched by faculty members, such as physical properties of semiconductors, mesoscopic physics of nonconductors, nanotubes, and quantum electronic devices.

Graduates of the master’s degree program in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Ariel University are highly sought after in the job market, finding senior positions in the industry.
