Our program exceeds the standards and curriculum established by the National EMS Education Standards (NEMSES) as well as the Virginia EMS Education Standards (VEMSES).

An EMT–Paramedic must possess the ability to remain calm and be able to function in an uncontrolled environment, exhibit leadership qualities, good physical condition, emotional stability, psychological adaptability, good moral character and manual dexterity.

Graduates of the American National University Paramedic program will qualify to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians' examination, National Registry Paramedic (NRP). As a certified Paramedic, you will be prepared for entry-level employment working for police, fire, and rescue squads; private ambulance services; and hospitals.

The American National University Emergency Medical Technology-Paramedic Associate’s Degree program has been issued a Letter of Review by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). This letter is NOT a CAAHEP accreditation status; it is a status signifying that a program seeking initial accreditation has demonstrated sufficient compliance with the accreditation Standards through the Letter of Review Self Study Report (LSSR) and other documentation. Letter of Review is recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for eligibility to take the NREMT's Paramedic credentialing examination(s). However, it is NOT a guarantee of eventual accreditation.
