Introduction
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is a 2-year comprehensive program that will generate images used to assess and diagnose various medical conditions. The role of a diagnostic medical sonographer is critically important in helping doctors make accurate diagnoses. Students will be educated on the necessary technical skills to perform abdominal, obstetrical and gynecological, and vascular sonography procedures.Β The objective of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is not only to prepare students to become skilled sonographers but also to equip them with the essential knowledge of the vital principles and instrumentation of Diagnostic Ultrasound.
At the end of the program, the student will be scheduled for a clinical externship where he/she can gain hands-on experience in a physicianβs office, hospital, or imaging centers under the supervision and control of the American Institute of Healthcare & Technology (AIHT), overseen by a designated site supervisor. Externships allow students to develop skills and allows them to make connections with working professionals. AIHT has clinical affiliations with numerous healthcare facilities where students will be placed at one or more of these affiliated sites and must complete their clinical hours based on the school's schedule. Students are not permitted to begin the internship until all required classroom and lab hours are completed.
