Introduction

An occupational therapist's therapeutic work empowers independence in daily life activities for individuals with physical limitations due to illness, injury, disability, or ageing. Abilene Christian University's Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) program equips you to transform patients' lives by understanding the human body and human environments.

The Master of Science in Occupational Therapy Mission is to prepare occupational therapy students to think and act critically, missionally, and globally in Christian service and leadership throughout their respective communities.

We believe in teaching students to recognize that occupation in its broadest sense is a great gift from God and therefore requires great responsibility. This responsibility is taught through our core values of faith, service, authenticity, innovation, and competency.

Occupational therapists play vital roles in various public and private, professional environments, including elder care, physical and mental health clinics, services, and young people in schools and pediatric facilities.

The program graduates will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After completing this exam, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR). Besides, all states require licensure to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination. Note that a felony conviction may affect a graduate's ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure.
