This doctoral programme is the foundation of the engineering principles of information technology that transforms our economic and social systems. The final thesis should respond to the needs arising from the impact that IT has had on all professions.

This English-taught master's degree in Computer Science and Information Technology aims at training professionals suitable for employment in industry and research in areas where a high level of training is required in the fields of software development and design, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.

The Ph.D. course aims to train researchers capable of carrying out high-quality research work related to Information Engineering in academic and non academic research institutions as well as in industrial research development centers. The course consists of four curricula:

The Master of Science in Digital Skills for Sustainable Societal Transitions has been designed to train the digital expert, a professional that can understand how technologies impact societies and cities transitions towards new development models. The Master's Course is characterized by a strong multidisciplinary approach that allows the digital expert to work in teams with digital technology related skills as well as practical skills. This leads to develop competencies in business management and management sciences, with in-depth knowledge in a specific transition-related process such as de-carbonization and energy transition, industrial automation, valorization of the cultural heritage.

The Master’s degree in ICT for Internet and Multimedia captures the evolution of the information engineering profession and represents a modern teaching approach that combines both solid fundamental knowledge and advanced technological skills. Focusing on devices, networks, signals, as well as cross-disciplinary issues (machine learning, big data, photonics, life sciences), the programme offers both strong theoretical courses, laboratory classes and applied research-oriented teaching towards advanced technologies for future society. An internship programme is also available within companies or research labs, thus further enriching the curriculum.

The 2026 edition of the Summer School Enabling Technologies for Industrial Internet of Things (ET-I2oT 2026) is organized to provide 6 ECTS (about 52 hours of front lessons) in the fields of Electronics, RFID, Sensors, Networking, Web of Things, SW for IoT, Computer Engineering, targeting on one side an audience of Bachelor (last year), Master and PhD students, and on the other side early stage researchers and practitioners from Academia or Industry. Both HW and SW aspects of IoT will be presented and discussed during the school.

The Ph.D. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) program delivers the skills necessary to conduct advanced research at universities, public bodies, or private organizations for the purpose of advancing scientific and technological progress and creating a managerial class with a high-level professional culture and a corresponding international openness. The specific objective of the doctoral program is to train professionals able to develop high-quality and innovative information and telecommunication systems addressed to solving complex problems. It also pursues the goal of enhancing the doctoral students’ entrepreneurial abilities by furnishing specific training and opportunities to undertake internships.

Information Engineering

These new Quantum-based systems will not replace Classical Information and Communications ones, but will be run in conjunction with them by enhancing them where Classical ones present critical weaknesses, such as the impossibility of simulating some biochemistry systems in the pharmaceutical systems, achieving nano-scale sense of physical magnitudes, solving some hard computing problems, or warranting secure communications that cannot be never deciphered by third parties.

The 2023 European Deep Tech Report highlights this sector as one of the most resilient in venture capital, with $15 billion invested in 2023, positioning Europe as a potential leader in Deep Tech.
