The aim of doctoral studies in Informatics is to educate scientists capable to develop and creatively apply the methods of information technology for creation and analysis of the mathematical models of real-world objects and systems aiming to find solutions to important scientific and practical problems.

Informatics Engineering is a branch of computer science, focused on effective solution of practical computation and information processing problems with application of scientific knowledge. This programme of doctoral studies aims to prepare future scientific leaders in the scientific field of Informatics Engineering. Each doctoral student who aims to acquire doctoral degree has to complete doctoral studies in the scope of 30 credits, conduct original scientific research in the scientific field of Informatics Engineering and develop new scientific knowledge, present the results of his/her scientific research in national and international scientific conferences and scientific journals, write and orally defend his/her doctoral dissertation. Programme provides doctoral students with a possibility to complete one study module at the foreign academic institution or participate in summer camp for doctoral students organised abroad and actively conduct the most advanced scientific research at the integrated centre of science, entrepreneurship and studies of Santaka valley since the first day of their studies. Awarded doctoral degree proves that doctoral student acquired a deep academic education and is able to conduct original scientific research in the field of Informatics Engineering.

The main goal of the Informatics study programme is to prepare highly-qualified IT specialists, who can carry out independent research work, or continue to doctoral studies in Lithuanian and foreign universities. Our graduates may also develop software development and maintenance projects, and can successfully compete for IT jobs in both Lithuanian and foreign companies.

The aim of the Informatics Programme is to prepare IT professionals capable to perform analysis of real-world problems, designing and implementing IT solutions for solving the identified problems, and understanding the reciprocal interactions between IT, society, and business. Through its three specializations – Artificial Intelligence Systems, Business Informatics, and Software Systems – the Programme aims to prepare broad-minded specialists having fundamental and state-of-the-art knowledge of modern information technologies (IT).

The field of artificial intelligence in computer science is undergoing highly dynamic development. The KTU MSc Informatics study programme is designed to convey the competencies that students need to actively contribute to the process of improvement and innovation.

The program is oriented toward today’s and tomorrow’s application domains, covering data retrieval, robotics, artificial intelligence, neural networks, data visualization, and distributed and cloud computing.

The objective of the Applied Informatics and Programming study program – to prepare highly qualified specialists of Informatics study field, focused on the areas of software development or computer network administration, who are able to adapt to changes in the contemporary market and are aware of the importance of self-directed learning (self-study) and life-long learning.
