23 Human Rights and Humanitarian Law Degree Programs in Italy

“Global Legal Studies” (GLS) is a programme aimed at blending Italian excellence in legal education – it began in Bologna in 11th century – with a modern, multicultural and multilinguistic approach. The programme is bilingual (Italian / English). Students who graduate receive a Master’s Degree [Laurea Magistrale in Giurisprudenza: LMG/01]. The following guide-lines are mainly applicable to students who live in Italy and intend to follow the entire 5-year program. Traditional Law Degree (Laurea in Giurisprudenza), including all the skills required for legal professions in Italy and an International curriculum made of 19 courses entirely taught in English (around 150 credits): 15 of them are mandatory courses, and 4 are left to the free choice of the students. All the courses are taught in English except for the three of them named in Italian, which are courses taught in Italian but especially addressed to GLS students.

This programme examines several national and international legal, political and moral issues. A research thesis should aim at identifying the ideological and political motivations behind global and regional regimes and human rights organizations.

The programme offers a unique curriculum bringing together human rights and intercultural heritage within the framework of international cooperation. It offers a solid, interdisciplinary and problem-oriented training to manage development projects in complex environments providing the tools to critically address their evolving economic, political, social, historical and cultural dimensions.

The Master’s degree aims at developing a universal culture of human rights. With a strong policy and action-oriented approach, where research and lecturing activities reflect the transnational and transcultural dimensions of human rights studies, it provides professional knowledge and skills to promote and guarantee the respect of human rights. Human rights law, multi-level governance of human sustainable development and security are conceptual paradigms of reference throughout the Program.

The Master in Human Rights and Conflict Management is a postgraduate 1st level Master's program designed to provide students from different cultures and backgrounds with a deep understanding of the linkages between human rights and conflict management theory and practice.

The distance master's degree in European Law and Policies, implemented by the Law Faculty, is to train an interdisciplinary professional profile of an expert in European law and policies and make him acquire operational and professional skills suitable for participating in the various stages of European policy planning and implementation. The transfer of the cognitive tools needed for this aim will be carried out with an interdisciplinary approach.
