7 Heritage Studies Degree Programs in Spain

In recent years, public cultural policies and the social reassessment of heritage have led to the creation or expansion of numerous heritage institutions and cultural facilities that need professionals skilled in the conservation, dissemination and management of cultural heritage. This master's degree offers professional training for work in museums, heritage institutions, public bodies, and businesses in the culture industry, and also prepares for professional practice in emerging areas and profiles of heritage management.

The master's degree Libraries and Heritage Collections is a blended program of 60 credits that provides professional training in the management and treatment of cultural assets in the form of bibliographic materials and documents. The master's degree is offered every two years and includes compulsory work placements, which are designed to assist students in finding employment, as well as a final project in the field of heritage.

It is an interuniversity Doctorate Program at the universities of Vigo, a Coruña and Santiago de Compostela with which it is intended to generate an interprofessional space between the different agents that participate in the protection of Heritage in their different perspectives: documentation and valuation of the asset culture, characterization of the materials of the property and the environment in which it is found, mechanisms of deterioration and diagnosis and, finally, direct or indirect intervention on the Heritage.

The inter-university master's degree provides training to its students to respond to the growing demand for professionals in study, research and cultural management linked to historic cities, museums, the art market, tourism and, in general, the cultural heritage of a historical-artistic nature.

The conservation, safeguarding and appreciation of heritage is an obligation of the society of our time. In architecture we should not understand by heritage only the immovable property classified as cultural interest (monuments), but also the set of structures that form the context where society has been configured throughout its history.

The Spanish culture courses (art, cinema, politics, institutions, creative industries, with Barcelona as a backdrop), focus on communication, conversation skills and improvement of writing in Spanish; and the specific purposes courses of economy and society taught in English organized by Estudios Hispánicos for foreigners, interested in improving knowledge of these subjects with specialized teachers. These courses have been on offer for over 70 years.
