Global Ambassador Samuel: A Day in Lausanne

Exploring Lausanne in One Day

Hello all and welcome to my final blog on educations.com. I hope the articles I have posted so far have woken your interest in exploring the wonders of Switzerland and, in particular, the Lausanne region. If so, get inspired below by my suggestions on how to get the most out of a short trip to our beautiful lakeside city.

08:30 Blackbird Coffee & Breakfast Club

Head to the city center and enjoy breakfast at this lovely café. Whether you have a sweet-tooth and prefer going for a bowl of granola with pancakes or would rather go for a full-hearted breakfast burger with eggs & bacon, Blackbird’s openhearted team has got you covered. As the name suggests, breakfast is not the only thing done right here. The wide range of high quality coffee is sure to energize you for the day ahead!

10:00 Stroll through Lausanne’s Old Town

Off you go into the historic part of the city. The area was chosen as a place of settlement thousands of years ago due to its strategic lakeside location where the rivers Flon and Louve meet. Many buildings, like the 12th century cathedral or the Castle St.-Maire, still bear witness to the city’s rich history. Luckily the official Lausanne website has prepared a guide for you to make sure you don’t get lost in the charming narrow roads of its inner city.

13:00 Visit the Olympic Museum

Lausanne has been home to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since its founding in the 19th century. As a major driver in the world of sports, the Olympic Games bring together athletes from all around the world in a celebration of unity every four years. The Olympic Museum in Lausanne was built to commemorate the institution’s achievements. A visit to the recently renovated museum will let you explore fascinating exhibitions.

You will start by learning about the ancient origins of the Games and how they were reborn in the 19th century. Next up are the different types of sports that are part of the tournament. During the last part, your energizing breakfast will come in handy. Take on Olympic athletes and test your ability in interactive games and challenges.

17:00 Enjoy a Boat Ride on Lac Léman

Walk through the beautiful Parc Olympique in front of the museum and head toward the Ouchy pier. Here you can board a boat that will take you on a scenic ride along the UNESCO world heritage site Lavaux. Breathtaking vineyards on one side of the lake and steep, snow-covered mountains on the other make for an unforgettable experience. Catch the sunset from the boat deck and enjoy a glass of regional wine (My tip: You can’t go wrong with a Chasselas).

20:00  Dinner at Le Café de l'Evêché

This afternoon will surely have left you hungry. Don’t worry – I have just the place to allay that hunger. Go feast on a first-rate cheese fondue at “Le Café de l'Evêché” just a few steps away from the Lausanne Cathedral. As I mentioned in one of my previous blogs, this dish is not to be missed during your visit to Switzerland. Enjoy the cheese-induced happiness in this rustic Swiss restaurant and don’t forget to bring a pair of expandable pants…

22:00 Drinks at Flon

With your stomach full of creamy cheese, you might feel like turning in early. However, if you still have the energy, take a short stroll down to Lausanne’s lively Flon area to dive into the city’s nightlife. Plenty of bars and nightclubs are waiting to be explored. The drinks might be a bit pricey, but there is no better way to end this day in one of Switzerland’s most exciting and beautiful cities.

I hope this series of blogs have brought you a bit closer to my home country. If you need more information about Lausanne or EHL, look us up on Facebook or Instagram. Thanks for reading and see you soon in Lausanne!
