8 Geoscience Degree Programs in Italy

This Summer School aims to provide students with the basic concepts of Python software and, through practical exercises on a computer running Python, address some of the most common applications in the field of geosciences

The Master’s degree programme in Georesources and Geoenergy Engineering is the only programme on primary resources and energy in Italy. It responds to the demand for professionals in the field of decarbonization and sustainable exploration, production and processing of raw materials and energy resources, with particular focus on key competencies for the energy transition, decarbonizations and mitigation of the environmental impacts of extractive activities.

The aim of this master's Degree in Geophysics entirely taught in English is to provide students with the knowledge to develop and apply mathematical and numerical models of geophysical and environmental systems and processes, design and carry out geophysical observation and exploration of the planet, analyze and design activities for the mitigation of natural and environmental risks.

This Summer School aim to provide an overview of the main Machine Learning and Deep Learning methods and their application to geophysical, geological, environmental and geographical data, keeping a more practical flavour.

The Master’s degree in Geophysics for Earth and Climate Processes, Risks and Resources has the main goal of educating professionals and researchers capable of approaching in a multi-disciplinary manner the theory and applications of physical methodologies for the exploration and characterization of the subsoil. This exploration can take place ad different spatial scales, from meters to tens and hundreds of kilometers, with aims spanning a large number of application and theoretical areas where the knowledge of soil and subsoil is crucial. Both computational and field oriented specializations are foreseen.

Fiber-optic sensing has rapidly emerged as a transformative technology for monitoring and understanding different geological, geophysical, and environmental processes. By exploiting existing telecommunication infrastructure or purpose-built cables, distributed fiber-optic sensing, such as Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS), Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS), and Distributed Strain Sensing (DSS), enable high-resolution measurements across large spatial and temporal scales.

The Master of Science in Geosciences for Sustainable Development - Curriculum in Geosciences for Energy, Mineral, and Water Resources provides advanced interdisciplinary training on the dynamics and management of the Earth system, focusing on the geological-environmental systems and human activities.

The doctorate trains PhDs on broad themes of Architecture, Earth Sciences and the Planets and Civil Engineering. This interdisciplinary research platform includes topics that concern the natural and man-made environments, the risks associated with them (hydro-geological risk, risks and safety of the built environment at different scales, planning, design and conservation of buildings and urban settlements) and georesources. In this context interdisciplinary, it is possible to develop specific doctoral themes capable of generating repercussions scientific and applicative in line with an increasingly complex society. The research activity follows an initial period of basic training and develops collaborations with research institutions and universities which, where possible, will allow doctoral students to obtain an Italian and foreign qualification (in co-tutorship) and any additional certification of Doctor Europaeus or Network Doctorate International.
